A prestigious Not-for-Profit organisation in London is seeking a qualified and experienced Financial Controller to join their team on a 12-month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. This is a key leadership role within Finance, offering the opportunity to shape financial processes and compliance in a purpose-driven environment.

The Role

The successful candidate will lead and develop a dedicated accounting services team, overseeing payroll, pensions, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, fixed assets, and financial systems. You’ll ensure robust internal controls, regulatory compliance, and high-quality financial reporting across several legal entities.

This is a pivotal role contributing to the effective operation of the finance department and wider organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of 4 direct reports across finance
• Oversee preparation of statutory accounts, audit management and compliance reporting (SORP, VAT, Gift Aid)
• Maintain financial control environment, reviewing reconciliations and ensuring timely, accurate reporting
• Act as system administrator for finance and banking systems
• Prepare monthly management reports and quarterly KPI dashboards
• Support treasury and investment planning
• Attend Audit and Risk Committee meetings and contribute to financial governance

Candidate Profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent) with 5-10+ years’ post-qualification experience
• Strong background in financial control, statutory reporting and compliance
• Experience managing finance operations within a charity or not-for-profit setting
• Excellent knowledge of SORP, VAT and Gift Aid
• Confident communicator with strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
