Cedar is currently seeking an Interim Head of Finance to join a leading NHS healthcare provider for a 6-month contract. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing team and contribute to the strategic financial management of the organisation.

About the Role

As Head of Finance – Commissioning & Benchmarking, you will:

• Lead the management of provider activity and agreements, including Long-Term Agreements (LTAs), high-cost exclusions, and individual patient funding requests.
• Oversee financial commissioning aspects for residents, ensuring robust financial flows and reserves management.
• Provide expert financial advice for clinical service development business cases and benchmarking initiatives.
• Manage and develop the Finance Commissioning and Costing & Benchmarking team (8 staff), driving innovation and performance improvements.
• Represent the organisation in key meetings and forums, deputising for senior finance leaders as required.

This role demands a strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex financial frameworks, lead negotiations, and manage sensitive and high-stakes situations effectively.

Essential Requirements

• Qualifications: CCAB-qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience. Evidence of continuous professional development is essential.
• Experience: Extensive NHS finance experience, including senior management roles. A strong background in commissioning, costing, and strategic financial planning is vital.
• Skills: Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure. Advanced IT literacy, particularly in Excel, is required.
• Knowledge: In-depth understanding of NHS finance regimes, commissioning arrangements, and relevant Welsh Government and Department of Health guidance.

This role may require travel between sites, so a full UK driving license is essential.
