Location: International assignment, regular travel required
Contract: Interim executive appointment
Start Date: Immediate/Short Notice
Day Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience.
In a private equity environment, technology is not simply a support function. It is a critical driver of operational performance, scalability and enterprise value.
Cedar Technology is supporting an international, private equity-backed business seeking an accomplished Interim Chief Information Officer (CIO/CDIO) to lead its technology function through an important period of transformation and value creation.
This is a high-impact executive appointment requiring someone who can combine strategic technology leadership with hands-on operational judgement.
The successful individual will work closely with senior executives and investment stakeholders, providing the leadership, structure and delivery expertise required to ensure technology enables the organisation’s wider commercial objectives.
This is not a purely advisory assignment. We are looking for an experienced operator who has personally led complex technology environments and delivered measurable business outcomes.
You will take executive responsibility for the technology function, balancing immediate operational priorities with longer-term transformation and value creation.
Your responsibilities will include:
Technology strategy and value creation: Develop and execute a technology roadmap aligned with commercial objectives, operational improvement and shareholder value.
Data and analytics transformation: Lead the development of data capabilities, improving accessibility, governance and the organisation’s ability to generate actionable commercial insights.
Corporate IT and infrastructure: Maintain effective oversight of enterprise infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity and service delivery.
Executive stakeholder management: Partner with senior leadership and investment stakeholders to evaluate technology priorities, investment decisions and delivery risks.
Technology operating model: Assess organisational structure, capabilities, governance and delivery effectiveness, implementing improvements where required.
M&A and integration: Provide technology leadership and strategic input into potential acquisitions, integration activities and broader transformation initiatives.
International leadership: Lead technology operations across a distributed business, establishing strong relationships with stakeholders across multiple locations.
We’re interested in established CIOs, CDIOs and senior technology executives with a demonstrable track record of leading complex business environments.
Essential experience
Previous experience operating at CIO, CDIO or equivalent executive technology leadership level.
Strong knowledge of enterprise IT, infrastructure, cybersecurity and corporate technology functions.
Experience managing complex ERP environments and business-critical enterprise applications.
Proven leadership of data, analytics or enterprise-wide technology transformation.
Experience working across multi-site or international organisations.
Ability to communicate effectively at executive and board level.
A track record of translating technology strategy into measurable operational and commercial outcomes.
Availability to commence an interim assignment at short notice.
Flexibility to travel regularly and maintain an onsite presence as required by the needs of the business.
Particularly valuable experience
Private equity-backed businesses or portfolio company environments.
Technology value creation plans and investor-led transformation programmes.
Technology leadership within operationally complex, multi-site organisations.
Enterprise application modernisation.
Data-driven operational improvement and commercial analytics.
Mergers, acquisitions, integration or technology separation programmes.
Experience providing executive leadership during periods of organisational change.
We are not looking for someone who has simply sponsored transformation programmes.
We’re interested in leaders who can explain the decisions they made, the teams they led, the challenges they overcame and the commercial outcomes their work delivered.
1. Executive ownership
Take responsibility for a broad technology function covering enterprise applications, data, infrastructure, cybersecurity and technology transformation.
2. Direct exposure to value creation
Work in an environment where technology priorities are closely aligned with commercial performance, operational efficiency and enterprise value.
3. Meaningful transformation
Help shape the direction of an established business with the opportunity to influence both immediate execution and longer-term technology strategy.
4. Senior stakeholder engagement
Collaborate with executive leadership and investment stakeholders, providing strategic input into important business and technology decisions.
5. A commercially significant interim mandate
An opportunity for an experienced technology executive to apply their expertise within a complex international business at an important stage of its evolution.
At Cedar Technology, we specialise in connecting organisations with senior technology leaders and engineering professionals who can demonstrate genuine business impact.
Our work spans AI, Data, Enterprise Technology, Digital Transformation and Executive Technology Leadership; specialising in private equity-backed environments.
We understand that successful technology leadership requires more than delivering programmes on time and within budget.
The strongest CIOs and CDIOs can demonstrate how their decisions have improved operational performance, reduced risk, enabled growth and contributed to enterprise value.
Our approach to executive technology recruitment examines:
Technology ownership: The scale, complexity and criticality of the environments you’ve led.
Commercial outcomes: The measurable value generated through technology investment and transformation.
Operational leadership: Your ability to maintain business continuity while delivering change.
Execution: Your track record of turning strategy into practical, sustainable outcomes.
Stakeholder influence: Your effectiveness working with executives, investors and operational leadership.
Business alignment: Your ability to connect technology priorities with the commercial objectives of the organisation.
We focus on evidence of delivery, not simply job titles or transformation terminology.
If you’re an experienced interim CIO or CDIO with strong enterprise technology leadership, data transformation and operational delivery experience, we’d welcome a confidential conversation.
Private equity experience would be particularly relevant, although we’re equally interested in executives with demonstrable experience delivering transformation in complex commercial environments.
This assignment requires regular travel and a significant degree of flexibility to meet the operational and leadership needs of the business.
Candidates who are immediately available or approaching the end of an existing assignment are encouraged to apply.
