Interim Treasury and Pensions Accountant
Local Authority | South East (Hybrid) | £475-£525 per day Inside IR35 | 6 Months

We are working with a local authority in the South East to appoint an Interim Treasury and Pensions Accountant. This role is pivotal in managing the council’s treasury operations and supporting pension fund activities during a period of transition.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned local government finance professional with in-depth treasury and pensions experience, ready to hit the ground running in a dynamic and complex environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead on day-to-day treasury management activities, including cash flow forecasting, investments, borrowing, and compliance with the CIPFA Treasury Management Code
• Support the management and reporting of the authority’s pension fund, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submissions
• Provide expert technical advice to senior finance and operational stakeholders on treasury and pensions matters
• Assist with year-end pension and treasury accounting requirements and liaise with external auditors where necessary
• Monitor and interpret financial regulations and market conditions affecting treasury and pension fund performance
• Contribute to the development of treasury strategies, policies, and reports for committees and senior leadership

Essential Requirements:

• Proven experience in a similar role within a UK local authority
• Strong technical understanding of treasury management, pension accounting, and local government financial frameworks
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• CCAB-qualified (or equivalent), or qualified by experience within local government finance
