I'm currently recruiting for an incredibly exciting industrial manufacturing organisation working on cutting-edge technology and supplying to a global client base. They are looking for an exceptional buyer to join their procurement team, to manage the sourcing and procurement of a range of goods and materials for manufacture. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a few years of experience in industrial manufacturing procurement, who is looking to quickly progress their career in a growing organisation.

Reporting into the assistant supply chain manager and sitting alongside a team of highly accomplished buyers, the buyer will be responsible for the end-to-end sourcing of a portfolio of commodities required for the manufacture of the organisation's products. This could include both back end, day-to-day sourcing using the existing database on their MRP system, as well as sourcing new products and new suppliers, all the way through to delivery of product. They will be part of a fast-paced and rewarding environment, and be given plenty of autonomy and scope for decision-making. It is expected that the right candidate will progress rapidly and there is excellent opportunity for promotion within this role.

The ideal candidate will be an ambitious driven self-starter, capable of working effectively independently. They will be a strong communicator and ideally have experience with managing both internal and external stakeholders and they will be a fast learner, capable of on boarding new information quickly and adapting to new circumstances and products. Finally they will have strong buying experience within an industrial manufacturing environment and have good commercial understanding.

Responsibilities of the Buyer

  • General Purchasing administrative and non-administrative duties
  • Placing purchase orders securing the required lead times, driving quality adherence and pursuing best cost for direct materials and sub-contract services in line with the business demand (MRP requirements)
  • Issuing requests for quotation (RFQ's/RFI's/RFP's) with focus on creating competitive tension between potential supplier providing the platform to make informed and sustainable sourcing decisions to support business requirements
  • Identify risks in the supply chain with focus to resolve using supplier development activities or resource activities to support business requirements.
  • Proactively address material shortages to strive for MRP adherence and report material availability issues in a timely manner to support operations and planning requirements.
  • Ensure On Time Delivery of all items in line with the manufacturing plan.

Key Requirements

  • 1 - 5 years experience in a related industry as part of a procurement function (e.g. automotive, industrial manufacturing, engineering)
  • Excellent communicator and fast learner
