Employee networks

At Westminster City Council, Staff Networks are change agents striving to embed diversity and inclusion across the organisation and providing an arena for everyone’s voices to be heard. Staff input is knowledgeable, invaluable and encouraged.

ABLE Network

A group of staff who have a wide range of disabilities or long-term conditions, and who do a variety of jobs in the council. They want to raise awareness of disability as a normal part of people’s lives.

Global Majority Network

They represent the Global Majority workforce here at Westminster. At their conception, they started with a steering group that sought to understand the issues affecting those from the Global Majority. Since then, they have grown to over 300 members and support all staff through training, forums and events.

Family Loop

Family Loop is an inclusive network for all members and types of families, including and not limited to, parents, step-parents, grandparents, carers, siblings or partners. As a network, there is awareness that balancing family and work life can be a challenge, but this is made harder by not having the right information or support available. They aim to ensure that no one feels isolated or ‘out of the loop’.

Rainbow Network

The Rainbow Network is an intersectional, staff-led network that exists to offer an open, friendly and positive LGBTQ+ space for all members of staff who identify as such. They are not only here for support, but also as an educational resource and celebration of LGBTQ+ community. They strive to champion the inclusion at all levels of the council.

Multi-faith Network

The Multi-Faith Network allows staff to come together to highlight religious celebrations they would like Westminster to recognise and celebrate.

Women’s Network

The Westminster Women’s Network believes in a workplace where all genders are equal and can succeed in their career regardless of gender, background or career stage. The Network provides an intersectional forum for all staff to inspire and support each other in order to create a better workplace for all.

Disability Confident

Disability Confident is a government scheme designed to encourage employers to recruit and retain disabled people and those with health conditions. It is voluntary and has been developed by employers and disabled people's representatives.

Westminster City Council currently hold the level 2 ‘Employer’ status, meaning:

  1. Actively attract and recruit disabled people to help fill opportunities.

  2. Provide a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process.

  3. Guarantee interviews to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for jobs.

  4. Are flexible when assessing people so disabled job applicants have the best opportunity to demonstrate that they can do the job.

  5. Proactively offer and make reasonable adjustments as required.

  6. Encourage our suppliers and partner firms to be Disability Confident.

  7. Ensure our employees have appropriate disability equality awareness.
